The balance can be used with transducers of the same capacity for measurement of forces and moments as the balance. The intermediate linkage allows the ship model to alter sinkage during tests up to +80mm and to alter trim angle up to +10°. The lower beam of the multi-component balance is attached firmly to the ship model. The upper beam of the balance is connected via a horizontal linkage to the fork-type support which surrounds the balance and which is connected to the CPMC.
