A pressure regulating valve with filter is also included to isolate the equipment from fluctuations in the water supply pressure. Three Phase Separation Training Unit

The simulated boiler itself is constructed from a clear acrylic tank and thus the demonstration unit provides a clear visual appreciation of the operating characteristics of the various level controls i.e. float operated magnetic, reed or electronic system using electrode sensors. An arrangement of up to date integrated circuits is used to simulate boiler pressure and burner control together with the sensing and control systems associated with modern boiler systems. A Boiler Water Gauge is fitted to the Boiler Drum so that possible misuse of this item can be demonstrated clearly and safely. This Gauge can also be used to demonstrate the method of changing a sight glass for such a gauge under simulated working conditions, a circumstance which can be safely taught on this Demonstration Unit. These systems would not normally all be fitted in the same boiler but are included in this unit to give the student an appreciation of the characteristics of each system. Conversion of water from the boiler into steam is simulated so that the level sensors need to operate as in a true Boiler system.

Process Control Simulator Unit

Industrial Process Plant Trainer

The Raw Water Filtration module houses the Raw Water vessel, two independent sand filters and Filtered Water vessel. The degassed liquid is then pumped forward through the Anion Bed. Water from the Filtered water vessel is pumped forward through the Cation vessel; this then enters the degasser vessel after experiencing a carbonate removal process. Within the Acid Dosing vessel is a 5% dilution of Hydrochloric Acid, which is used to regenerate the Cation Bed. Mains water is transferred into the raw water vessel, which is then pump forward through either one of the sand filters into the filtered water vessel. On the Dosing module there is a an acid dosing vessel, caustic dosing vessel, Cation Bed, Anion Bed and Degasser vessel. In the Caustic Dosing vessel is a 4% dilution of Sodium Hydroxide; this is used to regenerate the Anion Bed.

Essentials of Process Control

The Essentials of Process Control (EPC) range of products takes students through the fundamentals and principles of process control and progresses to give them a thorough grounding in the control of physical processes. Four independent process units demonstrate level, flow, temperature and pressure as the controlled variable.
The effect of making changes to the system or to the controller configuration can be quickly investigated by applying repeatable disturbances or step changes to the process. The concepts of closed loop control, including on/off control, proportional control, proportional/integral and proportional/integral/derivative (PID) control can be explored and demonstrated. Some units also cover both time proportioning and analogue control of the same parameter. Comparison of the responses obtained with different control settings clearly demonstrates the need for correct matching of the controller to the system characteristics. Each process is supplied complete with software that allows it to be controlled using a Windows PC via a USB connection.
The plc has the control algorithms implemented in ladder logic and so are fully accessible to the user. To demonstrate industrial control systems, two further controlling devices are available, a full function commercial PID controller with autotune, and a programmable logic controller (PLC). This is demonstrated by a sensor calibration apparatus designed specifically to demonstrate this subject.
