The applied force is captured on the digital display along with the revolution count of the specimen. Both values can be reset and zeroed (tared) prior to the testing commencing. When failure occurs, a microswitch stops the motor and the cycles to failure are registered on the digital display. A 2800rpm motor rotates a specimen through a gear and pulley arrangement between 5600 or 1425 rpm. The specimens are held within chucks and loaded using a cantilever arrangement, with the load being applied through a screw jack mechanism with integral cantilever load cell. This Rotating Fatigue Machine Digital Apparatus has been designed to introduce students to the effects of material fatigue using a sinusoidal variation of bending stress. The count remains when the motor is not running and the ability to reset the counter has been designed in. The Rotating Fatigue Machine Apparatus is mounted on a heavy base plate and is designed to overhang the bench. Specially machined necked test specimens are provided. The three Spur Gear Lifting Machine supplied include a driver having 40 teeth, a driven wheel with 120 teeth and an intermediate gear of 40/120 teeth compound. A vertical stand incorporates a back plate which carries a number of spur gears on shafts to enable single, double or three stage gear trains to be assembled.

The Test Bench For Electric Machines is a multipurpose bench for the study and characterization of the electrical machines using an automated test approach. The system is composed of the following main sections:
HMI (Human machine interface): the heart of the laboratory. The HMI communicates with the other devices via serial port using the Modbus protocol, reading electrical and mechanical data from instruments and providing the commands to the prime mover, so it can be used as drive, load or a speed and torque control to put the machine under test in a specific working condition or to simulate different load profiles such as fan, lift, etc. It performs the test automation and provides the user interface to execute the experiments.
Instruments: collect mechanical (speed, torque and temperature) as well as electrical data, and can provide control signals to synchronize a generator with the grid.
Prime mover: A squirrel cage three-phase asynchronous machine controlled by an inverter in four quadrant operation providing the mechanical power and torque necessary for the characterization of the machine under study.

The main feature of the machine is that the cradle, in which the rotor to be balanced is supported, has only one degree of freedom which is that of rotation in a horizontal plane about the axis of the crossed spring pivot. The Static and Dynamic Balancing Machine has been developed to provide means for accurate experimental work in the balancing of rigid rotors. The position of the rotor in the cradle is adjusted so that one of the correction planes contains the axis of the cradle suspension and the rotor is balanced for moments about this correction plane by adjustments in the other correction plane. The design of the machine adheres to industrial practice and the machine may be used to balance real rotors of up to 152 mm (6") diameter and 450 mm length in addition to the fivedisc rotor provided. In either case the rotor is then completely balanced, both statically and dynamically. The rotor is then turned round in the cradle and balanced for moments about the other correction plane, or alternatively it is balanced statically.
