The Kaplan Turbine Study Unit is fitted with a special VISIFLOW version turbine featuring a number of transparent parts which make it possibleto see very clearly the hydrodynamic phenomena taking place inside it. The unit is supplied with manuals which describe all parts of the trainer, the installation and utilisation procedures, as well as many exercises with the relative results. Kaplan Turbine Study Unit has been designed for a complete range of tests on Kaplan type hydraulic turbines. The unit is perfectly self-sufficient, takes up little space and can be easily moved. The system is equipped with two regulation systems: the first allows to adjust the incidence of guide blades during turbine operation by means of an opening control hand wheel, the second allows to adjust the inclination of the impeller blades, by means of an external hand wheel too.
....The adjustable guide vanes direct water to the runner. Direct coupling generator with clutch is provided to simulate actual turbine generator operation. The set is designed for studying the Kaplan turbine characteristics under various flow rates and heads. Power output at various flow rates, heads and speeds can be measured by either dynamometer or generator output. The unit is on wheels. The unit consists of a storage tank, a pump, a turbine, a dynamometer, a generator, and measuring instruments.
Experiments:
Efficiency vs speed for a given head and flow rate.
Power output vs speed for various heads and flow rates.
Overall turbine generator efficiency.
Racing characteristics
Torque vs speed at various heads and flow rates.
The Kaplan turbine is a reaction turbine with an axial through flow. It has a high specific speed and is suitable for large water flows and small to medium heads. Water turbines are turbo machines which convert water energy into mechanical energy. Mostly, they are used for driving generators for power generation purposes. Therefore, the Kaplan turbine is used as a "classic" water turbine in run-of-the-river power stations. The helps to investigate the characteristic behaviour of a simple-regulated Kaplan turbine during operation. The turbine is loaded with a wear-free eddy current brake. The speed is captured by means of an inductive, non-contact position sensor at the turbine shaft. For determining the turbine power, the eddy current brake is equipped with a force sensor for torque measurement. The trainer is provided with a closed water circuit with tank, submersible pump and throttle valve for adjusting the flow rate. The angle of incidence and thus the power output of the impeller are changed by adjusting the guide vanes.

....This bench top unit is designed for a study of mixed multi stage process dynamics. A drain tank under each reactor and a dead time coil are provided. Conductivity probes are fitted to each reactor for monitoring the process. Instruments are provided for indicating reagent flow rate and conductivity. The unit consists of three reactor vessels connected in series. Each reactor has a variable speed agitator. Two reagent vessels, each with a reagent pump and a flow meter, feed the reagents to the first reactor. Piping connection allows the reagents to be fed directly to any reactor.
Experiments:
Study of dynamic process for stirred tank reactors in series.
Influence of flow rate.
Study of chemical reaction in three tank system.
Study of time constant using a dead-time coil.
