The Computerized Concentric Pipes Heat Exchanger Study Unit has been realized to study the operation of a heat exchanger, concentric pipes type. The water is heated by a proper electric resistance. A set of valves enables to operate either in equi-current or in counter-current conditions. The unit is provided with a wheel-mounted frame and includes all the measuring instruments necessary to perform the experiments. A three-speed motor-driven-pump generates the hot water flow in the primary circuit while in the secondary circuit the water is directly drawn by the water mains. This type of exchanger, which is very common in the industrial field, enables the student, owing to its simple construction, to quickly learn the thermal exchange concept and study the main parameters by varying the operation conditions. The system is supplied with manuals which describe all parts of the trainer, the installation and utilisation procedures, as well as many exercises with the relative results. A data acquisition and analysis system for personal computer allows to take the measurements automatically, to plot the curves on screen or print them out, to store the experimental data on disk or print them.
