The designed for training in ventilation engineering. The individual components in the ventilation system are fitted with pressure measuring glands. The power consumption of the fan is indicated on the switch cabinet using a voltmeter and an ammeter. For this purpose, an inclined tube manometer with 2 measuring ranges and a digital handheld unit for the measurement of the air velocity are included, along with numerous other components. Once the trainee has built a ventilation system independently, the effects of bends, branches, regulator flaps on the airflow rate, the air velocity, as well as the pressure loss can be investigated. The components are the same as those used in ventilation engineering.
....Horizontal reactions are monitored using the integral load cell within the track plate and its output fed into the Interface Deflection of Frame and sway is measured using the dial gauges supplied.
A 'rectangular' Portal frame and an 'S' frame made from rectangular solid steel section are provided with a range of fixed or pinned ends and simple supports to enable each frame to be set up in the Universal Frame and Stand and loaded horizontally and vertically.
Load hangers, calibrated weights, cords and pulleys are provided to apply vertical and/or horizontal loading to the frames. One end of the portal frame pivots on a knife edge, while the other end is free to move horizontally on a track plate against a load cell.
Experimental Capabilities:
Study the load, horizontal reactions, deflections, sway in portal frames
Comparison of experimental results with theoretical values derived using Castigliano's theorem and numerical analysis by Simpson's rule.
The bench-mounting equipment includes a back plate that holds two clear-walled cylinders containing oil (supplied). This piston compresses or decompresses a trapped column of air in the test cylinder. Students use hand-operated pumps (supplied) to increase or decrease the pressure in the left-hand cylinder (the Reservoir) which moves a liquid piston of oil in the right- hand cylinder (the test cylinder).
A digital indicator measures the change in height of the trapped air column. A mechanical pressure gauge measures the pressure of the trapped air. When multiplied by the cross-sectional area of the column, this gives the change in volume.
The equipment uses normal, clean, dry air, as it behaves as an ideal gas over the range of pressures used in this equipment.

....The programme of exercises enables familiarisation with six different drive implementation and analysis methods: understanding the brief and the drawing, assembly, setting, adjusting, testing, and making calculations. This laboratory system is used to introduce combined drives and their correct assembly. A robust tubular steel frame with a square profile and bearing elements provide the accuracy for the setting of precise gearing. The flexibility of the set-up and the modularity of the components simplifies experimentation and implementation of the students' own ideas. All the system components are kept ready to hand and well protected in a housing system.

Moveable Members.
All vessels, pipes, valves and fittings in contact with process materials are constructed in stainless steel with the exception of the borosilicate glass solvent condenser. The support framework is also stainless steel. The vessel base is equipped with an indirect steam chest for process heating. Direct steam is injected at a variable rate through a distribution pipe positioned above the mesh. A similar distribution pipe positioned near the top of the vessel allows solvent to be sprayed uniformly onto the bed of material.
The cylindrical extractor/desolventiser with a hinged lid for charging the extraction material, has a base inclined slightly towards a port for discharging the extracted and desolventised meal. The miscella tank, positioned directly below the extractor to collect the draining liquid, is also a cylindrical vessel incorporating a steam chest as its base. Material is supported above the base by a perforated plate covered with a fine woven mesh so solvent may drain through to the miscella tank whilst retaining the solids.
Vapour from the vessels, produced in the desolventising process,is directed by ducting to the solvent condenser, an inclined cylindrical glass tube containing a double coil through which cooling water is circulated. This vessel also incorporates a direct steam distribution pipe through which steam can be metered at a variable rate. Condensate (usually a mixture of solvent and water) drains into the solvent water separator tank which allows thorough separation of the solvent and water by a gravity process.
The instructional material includes a complete set of drawings. The geometric models support the learning process by providing an introduction to technical drawings: from the solid model to the more abstract representation of the three views in a technical drawing. It presents each model in three views, as well as its 3D view and production drawing. The set contains 18 aluminium drawing models. The prismatic models have cut-outs parallel to, and at an angle to, the edges of the prisms. The models are precision-manufactured and are suitable for measurement exercises as well as drawing exercises.
