The basic tribological phenomena of journal bearings can be investigated using this unit. A lever with a sliding weight attached to it is connected to the bearing housing. This enables an external moment to be set corresponding to the friction moment generated in the bearing. The journal bearing to be investigated consists of a stainless steel bearing journal and the free-moving gunmetal bearing housing. A three-phase ac motor with a frequency converter for speed control serves as the drive. Another lever, combined with a set of weights, applies the defined load to the bearing. It is possible to view the bearing journal and the lubrication gap through the transparent cover. The continuously adjustable speed, as well as the temperature of the lubricant, is indicated digitally on the control unit. Lubricant is supplied by a drip-feed lubricator that feeds oil to the shaft via two lubrication channels. A drip tray collects the oil that leaks out.

The flow measuring instruments are connected in series and all except the measuring tank are arranged on a water proof panel. The pressure drop is measured by deferential pressure using manometers. Pressure tapping is by valves with quick connection. Flow Measurement Test Set is a bench top self contained water circulating unit for studying the various flow measuring instruments including primary flow measuring devices. Flow rate is obtained from a water meter reading and a stop watch. Water tanks are behind the panel. Flow rate is varied by a flow control valve. Measurement of flow by a primary flow measuring devices is by coefficient of discharge which is determined from a pressure drop across the device and a flow rate.

Determination of coefficients of discharge for Venturi meter, orifice meter and Pitot tube and compare the flow rates with those from water meter, variable area flow meter and measuring tank.

The installation of a gearshift rod with abutton and a mechanical clamping lever means that all the gears can be shiftedand the function of the hydraulic controls demonstrated. The automated, sequential six-gear transmission developedfrom the classical six-gear manual transmission is controlled by the enginemanagement. With the help of a hydraulic piston, 2 gears can be shifted on eachshift level. In this way, the old gear is firstly removed and then the selector shaft turnedonto a different shift level by a pin in the arrested gate sleeve when theinlet selector shaft is displaced by the first hydraulic piston. To change to another shift level, a gate sleeve, which had beenable to rotate loosely up to then, is arrested by a second hydraulic piston. Now, shiftinginto the next gear is possible.
