Comprises of a vertical air duct, with a transparent front for visibility mounted on a fan at the base of the duct, three heat transfer surfaces, airflow, and temperature probes
Technical data is included for each of the three heat transfer surfaces, which will enable students and researchers to compare practical results with theoretical analysis for free and forced convection.
A bench mounted unit specifically designed to demonstrate the phenomena of free and forced convection and to measure temperature profiles from three different heat transfer surfaces.
Three heat transfer surfaces supplied:
Pinned extended surface area 0.0525m2
Finned extended surface area 0.1414m2
A flat plate surface area 0.011m2
All heat transfer surfaces incorporate guards to allow safe use outside of the duct for performing free convection experiments
K-type thermocouples measure the air temperature in the duct before and after the heater as well as the surface temperature of the heat transfer surfaces.
The airflow is manually adjustable up to 10m/s.
Vertical duct incorporates a transparent front wall allowing complete visualisation of the process and identification of the airflow and temperature sensors.
The airflow is measured by an air velocity sensor, which is inserted inside the duct.
A comprehensive instruction manual is included.
Arm Soft software for includes separate exercises for each of the heat transfer surfaces in free or forced convection and records of all measured variables for analysis and comparison of the performances

The Test Bench For Electric Machines is a multipurpose bench for the study and characterization of the electrical machines using an automated test approach. The system is composed of the following main sections:
HMI (Human machine interface): the heart of the laboratory. The HMI communicates with the other devices via serial port using the Modbus protocol, reading electrical and mechanical data from instruments and providing the commands to the prime mover, so it can be used as drive, load or a speed and torque control to put the machine under test in a specific working condition or to simulate different load profiles such as fan, lift, etc. It performs the test automation and provides the user interface to execute the experiments.
Instruments: collect mechanical (speed, torque and temperature) as well as electrical data, and can provide control signals to synchronize a generator with the grid.
Prime mover: A squirrel cage three-phase asynchronous machine controlled by an inverter in four quadrant operation providing the mechanical power and torque necessary for the characterization of the machine under study.

Refrigeration System with Two Stage Compression

Refrigeration systems with two-stage compression are used for the generation of particularly low temperatures. Therefore, two compressors are connected in series, with each compressor only having a relatively low pressure ratio. At very low temperatures large pressure differences are required between the evaporator and condenser. In a compressor the volumetric efficiency drops significantly at high pressure ratios. In addition, intercooling between the low pressure compressor and the high pressure compressor reduces the outlet temperature of the compressor to harmless values and improves the efficiency of the compression. This makes a more favourable dimensioning of the low pressure stage compressor possible. Due to the large specific volume it requires a larger capacity at lower drive power.

Adjustment And Operation Of Expansion Valves

The expansion valves can be selected via valves. Via an evaporator with glass tubes the correct injection and evaporation of the refrigerant can be monitored. An additional electrically heated superheater at the output of the evaporator enables the investigation of the control behaviour with different refrigerant superheating. In the refrigeration circuit the expansion valves, also called primary controllers, also play an important role. The correct selection and adjustment decisively affects the capacity of the overall refrigeration system. The trainer enables the investigation of four different expansion valves: TEV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) with internal pressure compensation, TEV with external pressure compensation, TEV with MOP function (Maximum Operating Pressure) and AEV (Automatic Expansion Valve). The control behaviour can be monitored at a flow meter. Pressure and temperature sensors upstream and downstream of the expansion valve and at the evaporator outlet provide information about the state of the refrigerant and the degree of superheating. The locations of the temperature sensor at the evaporator output can be selected.

Four Bar Chain Mechanism
