Universal Bench Mounted Frame
The frame is designed to accommodate two items of ADS apparatus, allowing adequate space for students to work on each piece of equipment simultaneously. However it is possible to mount three pieces, in the case of the simple transmission system.
The Sanderson Universal Bench Mounted Frame provides a very sensible alternative to to wall mounting, particularly since many new buildings are predominantly glass, with very flimsy dividing walls.
By mounting the apparatus on the frame, experiments can be transported between rooms to any convenient location.
Drum Brake Apparatus
The apparatus is suitable for use in the laboratory and may be used by the Students to carry out simple experiments to investigate the relationship between actuating forces and the braking torques and for the determination of the co-efficient of friction between the brake lining and the drum.
It provides a means of demonstrating the difference in braking torque between leading (Primary) and trailing (Secondary) shoe braking systems and the effect on the braking systems and the effect on the braking torque of the various combinations of leading and trailing shoes. This apparatus has been developed specifically for Motor Vehicle Mechanics and Motor Vehicle Technicians Courses. When the two shoes are linked together, the self energising action can be demonstrated.

The Essentials of Process Control (EPC) range of products takes students through the fundamentals and principles of process control and progresses to give them a thorough grounding in the control of physical processes. Four independent process units demonstrate level, flow, temperature and pressure as the controlled variable.
The effect of making changes to the system or to the controller configuration can be quickly investigated by applying repeatable disturbances or step changes to the process. The concepts of closed loop control, including on/off control, proportional control, proportional/integral and proportional/integral/derivative (PID) control can be explored and demonstrated. Some units also cover both time proportioning and analogue control of the same parameter. Comparison of the responses obtained with different control settings clearly demonstrates the need for correct matching of the controller to the system characteristics. Each process is supplied complete with software that allows it to be controlled using a Windows PC via a USB connection.
The plc has the control algorithms implemented in ladder logic and so are fully accessible to the user. To demonstrate industrial control systems, two further controlling devices are available, a full function commercial PID controller with autotune, and a programmable logic controller (PLC). This is demonstrated by a sensor calibration apparatus designed specifically to demonstrate this subject. Another fundamental aspect of process control is an understanding of sensors and how they are calibrated.

The Simple Geared System consists four parallel shafts with fixed and sliding gears and supported by self aligned ball bearings on a base frame. The gear system is attached to a wall supported on two legs for weight hanger travel. By timing the fall of the weight hanger, the acceleration of the system can be calculated. The Simple Geared System is for studying the acceleration of a gear system under different gear ratios. Each pair of adjacent shafts has two transmission ratio, providing 8 different gear ratios between the first and the last shaft. A chord wound around a drum and the weight hanger provides a means of applying a torque. Inertia mass with torque drum is attached to each shaft. A sprocket and lock pin, and a winding handle are provided for raising the weights. All gears are enclosed in a casing with a transparent cover for safety.

The apparatus consists of two columns attached to the base frame. One column has a top support for bending specimen, and a clamp for torsion specimen. The Torsion And Bending apparatus is used for torsion and bending tests on different materials. Torsion And Bending is to be used with Universal Base Frame or Universal Structural Frame. For torsion test, one end of the specimen is clamped to the column, and the other end is clamped to the pulley. A lever arm is attached to the specimen at any length from the first column. The other column also has a top support for bending specimen with a pulley freely rotes in the column. Angle of twist is measured by a dial gauge for the lever movement. Torque is measured by the load and the pulley diameter. For bending test, the specimen is placed on or clamped to the supports on top of the columns. Load is applied to the specimen and deflection is measured by a dial gauge.

Winch Apparatus pulley has a high strength cord wrapped around its periphery and terminates in a load hanger. The substantial wall bracket is to be mounted to a sturdy vertical support. A horizontal shaft running through the heart of the unit has an 'EFFORT' pulley attached to its end. This industrial Winch Apparatus has been adapted for experimental work.
The winch has a maximum working load of 300 kg and is equipped with a safety pawl and ratchet.
The student applies a set of calibrated weights to the 'LOAD' hanger and adds appropriate calibrated weights to the 'EFFORT' hanger to raise 'LOAD'.
This cord again terminates with a load hanger. Winch Apparatus cord and hanger is termed the 'LOAD'. At the centre of the winch is a drum that also has a high strength cord wrapped around its periphery.

Torque measurement for the dynamometer is by load cell, whilst speed measurement uses a magnetic type pick up. Pump suction and delivery heads are monitored by pressure transducers and the flowrate in the circuit can be accurately determined using the built in flow meter. The testing of such a wide range of pumps on a single test unit is made possible by the provision of quick release hose and drive couplings together with quick release pump fixing clamps, enabling changeover to be made easily and efficiently. All data is logged and displayed on the P.C. that is supplied with the unit. Data can be exported to a spreadsheet for processing.

Training Objectives:

Combined Bending And Torsion uses specially machined necked specimens which are clamped at one end to the base plate and at the other end to a counterbalanced circular loading plate. Regular interval graduations on the loading plate allow a special hanger to locate. The object of this experiment is to determine what levels of Combined Bending And Torsion cause elastic failure in different materials, and to compare them with various theories of failure. The specimen deflection is measured by a dial gauge mounted diametrically opposite the load point. A set of calibrated weights is supplied along with a set of test specimens. Further test specimens are available separately. The special hanger enables pure bending, pure torque or a combination of both to be applied depending on the position of the hanger.
