Because the flow rate is a measure for the refrigeration capacity of the refrigeration system, the properties of the compressor are important for the capacity of the whole system. The heat generated can be dissipated via cooling water connections, enabling continuous operation. The heat transferred can be calculated. Connections for an external heating circuit are provided on the rear of the boiler. An integrated hot water circuit with plate heat exchanger simulates the heating circuit in a house. This allows them to be expanded into a complete heating system using training panels. Different operating points can be investigated by changing the oil pressure after the preset boiler water temperature has been reached.

A two bay, 45° cantilevered truss is suspended from the inside vertical edge of the Universal Frame and Stand. Each Forces in a Truss member is joined at its end by means of pins, which make up the true pin jointed assembly. A comprehensive instruction manual for lecturer and student, giving full details on apparatus assembly and operation as well as example results. All necessary assembly and operational tools are provided. The strain and hence force exerted in each member is measured using strain gauge technology applied to each truss member. At the far end of the truss a screwjack loading mechanism with integral load cell applying the Forces in a Truss loading. The outputs from the member strain gauges and screw jack load cell are fed directly into the Interface.

The plane carries a free running pulley at one end and at the other end is hinged to the base plate. Consisting mostly of metal construction with a machine ground steel plane. The angle is displayed on a Clinometer Protractor on the front face of the plane. Eight sliding surfaces are supplied on opposite faces of 10 cm x 10 cm pads having a total mass of 1 Kg each. Two vertical pillars located either side of the plane carry a cross bar which can be positioned at various levels by set screws to tilt the plane. A knurled screw permits fine adjustment of the angle of the plane which has a maximum value of 45º.
