The Alternator Trainer PCM Controlled alternator trainer with a PCM controlled voltage regulator contains a variable speed drive that modulates alternator input (engine speed) as in an actual vehicle. The alternator has been modified to accommodate a load current of 25A in order to demonstrate the full load charging characteristic and allow the regulator to run at 100% capacity. The Alternator Trainer PCM Controlled is a simulator that allows instructors to demonstrate the operation of automotive charging systems controlled by a PCM. The synoptic diagram and the layout of all the control and instrumentation units provide clear and simple operation to the user. The trainer is very reliable and equipped with all safety equipment required for demonstration. After the engine is started and running, the alternator takes over as the source of power and the battery then becomes part of the load on the charging system. The student can see how the regulator controls the alternator output as the speed and load vary.

The trainer is designed and constructed using OEM components and has been engineered respecting the OEM design and function. Clear sight glasses have been installed on the inlets and outlets of the H-block type TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve) that allow students to observe H-block operation and refrigerant changes of state. The trainer is equipped with an electrical break out box providing easily accessible electrical test points for the HVAC control head. The HVAC Training Bench with Double Zone Automatic Control is based on a GM Buick Lucerne and has been specifically designed for the instruction of air conditioning systems used in today vehicles.
