....Equilibrated soil samples placed on the sand are then subjected to a known variable suction range of 0- 800mm of water. These equipment consists of a free-standing circular tank filled with saturated sand (not supplied). The suction is applied by means of a buried porous pipe and an associated sliding control chamber. In order to maintain the suction an uninterrupted low volume water supply is required.

An automatic flash detector reduces the chance of misinterpretation of the test result by the operator, and enhances repeatability. Gas for the test jet/shutter assembly is supplied from an integral gas tank, which is filled using a standard butane (lighter) refill cartridge. The digital display shows test parameters, instrument status, and the test result. An audible prompt is sounded when an action is required from the operator. The Series 3 flash point tester is lightweight and suitable for mobile use when operated from the optional 12 volt power supply adaptor. All functions on the Series 3 flash point tester are accessed via a two button keypad and the Seta Multifunctional And Rotational Test (SMART) control feature.
Features:
Audible and on-screen prompts
Automatic flash detection
Small sample size - 2 or 4ml
Simple calibration
Portable operation.
Ambient to 300°C
Flash point test in less than 2 minutes.

A conductivity meter connected to the outlet of the second ion exchange bed gives a continuous indication of the progress of demineralisation. The apparatus is supplied with typical commercial cation and anion resins.
Union couplings permit the tubes to be removed from the manifolds and interchanged for softening/demineralisation experiments.
Two vertical transparent tubes mounted on a backboard contain the cation and anion resins. A manifold arrangement at the inlet and outlet to the tubes allows the flow configuration to be changed to simulate the cycles involved in the operation of a deioniser.
Regenerant and test or wash solutions contained in separate sumps are selected by a traversing tube and delivered to the apparatus by pump through a control valve and flow meter. Effluent may be fed to a sump tank and treated water collected in bottles for tests on hardness, conductivity or dissolved solids.
This module consists of a duct with transparent front andrear, between which is mounted a symmetrical aerofoil with a profile. The aerofoil may be accurately rotated to various angles of incidence (attack)to the air using the control and printed scale on the front of the duct. The aerofoil has 12 tapping points at various chord wise positions on its surface allowing the pressure to be measured at that point. The experiment mounts on the Air FlowBench contraction using toggle clamps. Each one of the tappings connects to themanometer (ancillary) via flexible tubes fitted with quick-release couplings. The tapping points are permanently connected to a manifold mounted on the duct showing the tappingposition and number for easy reference.
....The Pitot Apparatus consists of a total head tube and a static head tube for the Pitot, clear acrylic pipe, inlet and outlet, and an inclined manometer. Pitot Apparatus is for a study of velocity distribution across pipe section for a water flow in pipe, and for measurement of flow velocity. The total head tube can be moved up or down vertically with a scale for indication of the tube position. Differential pressure is measured by a multiple inclination manometer. Pitot Apparatus is to be used with Hydraulics Bench.
....Solar Thermal Cold Water Supply Station will enable the three solar thermal learning systems to be self-contained. The Solar Thermal Cold Water Supply Station is designed to reduce the temperature of hot water from the open loop, closed loop, or installation solar thermal learning systems and feed it back to the learning system at a temperature and pressure that is similar to a city water supply. This trainer includes the frame, ball valves for shutoffs and bypasses, relief valve to adjust temperature and pressure output, temperature gauges, a pressure gauge at outlet of chiller, AC pump, AC chiller, water storage tank, control unit, ground fault circuit interrupter, and an AC circuit breaker with lockout / tagout.

....A bench-mounted framework incorporates facilities for six tests to be carried out simultaneously. The glass flocculating vessels stand on a translucent base which is illuminated from below. Each flocculating vessel incorporates a stirrer paddle driven by a variable speed drive. The paddle assemblies are easily withdrawn for removal and cleaning of the test vessels.
The tests serve to indicate the optimum chemical dosages for removal of turbidity and color, including such parameters as pH adjustment, and the supplemental use of activated carbon. Jar tests, furthermore, yield a wealth of qualitative information on the rate of agglomeration as a function of energy input (paddle speed), the settle ability of the floc formed, the clarity of the supernatant water (which might be related to the subsequent length of filter run).
Analysis of a water or waste preparatory to the design of a treatment sequence often involves coagulation and flocculation tests, 'Jar tests', in the laboratory.
Jar tests are routinely used for the control of plan operations and are performed by treatment plant operators.
Coagulation and flocculation tests may be used, in conjunction with other tests, to study basic processes including, for example, the kinetics of reaction and the removal of trace constituents from aqueous solution.
A digital timer can be set to count down from 1 to 99 minutes. After count down the paddles stop and an alert sounds.
The paddle shafts are made of stainless steel to resist corrosion. Paddle speed is accurately maintained by electronic feedback control. A digital display clearly indicates the speed which is fully variable. Alternatively, the use of two adjustable presets allows repetition of pre-selected speeds.

A sturdy base contains all parts of the Diaphragm apparatus. This forms a compactproduct, ideal for use on a workbench. Two heavy flanges clamp the edge of the diaphragm to provide built-in edge conditions. The area directly under the diaphragm contains oil. The Diaphragm apparatus allows students to examine the effectof pressure on the surface profile of a diaphragm. The signals from eachstrain gauge are shown on a digital display. A digital dial gauge is fitted toa digital position indicator. The dial gauge can be traversed across thediaphragm to measure its surface profile. They can also determine thedistribution of circumferential and radial strains across its diameter. Eight strain gauges are cemented to the top surface ofthe diaphragm in various positions and at different radii. Each strain gaugecircuit is a full bridge, with high-stability resistors. Students use a hydraulic pump to increasethe oil pressure under the diaphragm. They record the strain readings and diaphragm profile at different pressures. Both instruments can connect to optionalVersatile Data Acquisition System.
