All of the typical hydraulic, mechanical and thermodynamic operation and characteristics of a heat pump are also studied using a wide range of sensors.
The Industrial Air Conditioning Pilot Plant with Heat Pump and SCADA allows advanced and in-depth study of the operation of an air to water heat exchanger. It also allows students to study the cycle reversing valve and thermostatic expansion valve that are part of the heat pump.

A cantilever has a single gauge bonded onto its surface, and an identical gauge is fixed to an unstressed piece of the same material for temperature compensation. The two gauges form part of a wheatstone bridge which has a balancing potentiometer, and whose meter is calibrated directly in microstrains. The Electrical Resistance Strain Gauge Apparatus has been designed to illustrate the basic features of electrical resistance strain gauges and their application in measuring bending and torsion. A detailed label on the unit shows the wheatstone bridge arrangement and how the specimen strain gauges connect into the circuit. The cantilever is loaded by the load hanger and calibrated weights hung from its free end. A torsion bar is also supplied having two gauges bonded orthogonally at 45º.

....The engine used here is an air-cooled single-cylinder four-stroke petrol engine with external carburation. A modified cylinder head permits experiments with various combustion chamber inserts. To adjust the mixture composition, the carburettor was modified. In conjunction with the test stand and the load unit, the engine is highly suitable for investigation of different compression ratios, ignition timing adjustment and an adjustable jet nozzle. The engine includes a sensor to measure the exhaust gas temperature. The sensor, ignition cut-off and fuel supply are connected to the test stand. It is fitted with a special device to adjust the ignition timing from advanced to retarded.
