....The asynchronous motor represents the most important and simple case in the area of poly phase machines and it is the most wide spread for industrial applications as food, chemical, metallurgical industries, paper factories or water treatment and extractive systems. The Bench for the Study of Three Phase Asynchronous Motors is a multi purpose bench for the study and characterization of three phase a synchronous motors of the series.

Among three-phase power supply the synchronous machines are widely used and they called so because the speed of the rotor of these machines are the same as the rotating magnetic field. They are commonly used as generators especially for large power systems, such as turbine and hydroelectric generators in the grid power supply. Because the rotor speed is proportional to the frequency of excitation,synchronous motors can be used in situations where constant speed drive is required. Since the reactive power generated by a synchronous machine can be adjusted by controlling the magnitude of the rotor field current, unloaded synchronous machines are also often installed in power systems solely for power factor correction or for control of reactive kVA flow. Their construction is almost similar to that a three-phase induction motor except the fact that the rotor is given DC supply.

The apparatus consists of a vertical stack of specimens clamped between an electrically heated source at the top and a water cooled base, all contained within a Dewar vessel and furnished with a radiation shield and anti convection baffle. The heating current is supplied from a variable voltage power pack and displayed on a digital ammeter. The specimens are fitted with very small thermocouples at known distances apart and connected via a selector switch to a digital temperature readout. Cooling water is supplied from the constant head water tank mounted above the Dewar vessel. The water cooled base is designed as a calorimeter to measure the heat flow and fitted with very accurate thermometers in the water circuit.

The heat flowmeter gives an output to a digital panel meter on the special control and instrumentation console. A compact unit designed for the direct measurement of the Thermal Conductivity of a wide range of liquid and gases. The simple calibration procedure enables the effect of incidental heat transfer to be determined and the unit is supplied complete with a console for the control and display of temperatures and heat input.

The assembly is encased in a test cabinet with insulation. The cold plates are clamped together to provided a uniform pressure.
