Hele Shaw Unit

The unit is designed to sit within the work area of Hydraulics bench and Hydrostatics bench. The unit is provided with four adjustable feet to set it level. The Hele Shaw unit comprises of a robust aluminium base plate, onto which is mounted a glass facia plate. Water is let in through the inlet tap, and wells evenly into the gap. As the water passes towards the outlet it passes over a row of small dye inlet holes, from which dye streams can be produced. The rate of flow of dye is controlled by the height of the dye header tank. The plate is clamped onto its seal by a number of wing nuts. The gap between the glass and base is constant. The rubber inserts are trapped between the glass and base. The well and sink arrangements are controlled by four small taps on each side of the apparatus, to provide a sink, source or doublet in any combination.

Multi Tube Manometers are highly useful for capturing pressure distributions from multiple pressure ports on bodies subjected to air flow past them. The adjustable inclination of Multi Tube Manometer helps in enhancing the contrast in the distribution.

Mercury is used only for high speed flows like that in Supersonic wind tunnels. The inclination also increases the reading value thus increasing the accuracy of the measurement. Water or Methyl Alcohol and Mercury can be used as the fluid in these kinds of manometers.

Two Dimensional Wind Tunnel

The test section can be fitted with two interchangeable variable incidence model carriers, one with a cylindrical section and the other with a low velocity sub-sonic aerofoil. The cylinder has a single static tapping which can be used to plot the pressure profile around the cylinder. Two Dimensional Wind Tunnel is designed for use with either Air Flow Bench or Fan Test Stand. The wind tunnel has a high aspect ratio clear acrylic test section 250 mm high and 65 mm deep. Pressures can be measured using Multitube Manometer or the Multiple Pressure transducer Module which provides 0-10 Volt analogue outputs for connection to a computer or data logging system. The aerofoil has 14 static pressure tappings allowing the pressure profile around the nose and along both the upper and lower cambered surfaces to be measured.

Multi-Cylinder Engine Test Beds

The engine is directly coupled to the dynamometer using an inertia matched drive shaft. All rotating parts are protected by fixed guards. The frame is fitted with wheels to allow the test bed to be easily moved.
